Taste buds- II

Good self-esteem is important because it helps you to hold your head high and feel proud of yourself and what you can do.

My previous post spoke about learning a new language. This feature of self-esteem was a trait Mriga surely possessed, she knew and had the knack of learning many languages. Mriga initially claimed to know 6 or more languages. Like I was saying, self- esteem builds confidence and it gives you the courage to try new things. Also, the power to believe in yourself.

Of course, Mriga successfully learned the language or rather, to be precise, learned good enough to manage a friend or two.  They would laugh their heart out to understand what actually Mriga meant.  Osam and Munu both became close to her and they too started interacting in English. They would meet every evening at their known, not so strange tea stall near their coaching center. Mriga made sure she would keep them entertained by her funny learning accent throughout her speech.

Mriga loved to fascinate and make her own stories about her house. She would sometimes behave like the character of Pippi Longstocking who loved to build up stories on her own.

Mriga was not the same but not that different either. Amongst her favourite tale was about her food. She would have simple dal, bhaat, and chips and claim to have mangsho pulav- or so-called a feast. Sometimes she would also imagine being a poetess of high intellect. Many a times it would be sensible with good philosophical values, though that was rare.

One such evening, Mriga on her usual walk started a conversation, she found it difficult to say the correct word for an insect in particular. So she starts explaining this way, “they have a long long thread-like things above their head and they are very chee chee, they do not know where they are walking, they tend to run fast.”

Mriga finally gives up and speaks in English that there are 4600 species out of which 30 are related to human habitat.
